Messi scores first goal of tournament in Argentina’s victory
Argentina have booked their place in the Copa América final after goals from Julian Alvarez and Lionel Messi gave them a 2-0 win over Canada in the semi-finals on Tuesday.
Messi scored his 109th international goal and first of the tournament with a typically clinical finish in the 28th minute, before Alvarez added a second just before half-time.
Canada came out fighting in the second half but were unable to find a way past Argentina’s resolute defense.
Argentina will now face either Brazil or Uruguay in the final on Saturday.
